    YEHAA!

Well, today someone told me that they could sum up my entire outlook on life with one word. So I'm thinking... "hmmm... I'm such a complex individual, how can you possibly sum me up in one word?"... ok, stop laughing... anyway, their word was "Yehaa!"... It didn't think much of it at the time, because yehaa is a word I use just a little too often, so naturally I would expect someone to associate it with my personality. However, as the day went on I began to contemplate (and I still have a headache from that). I got to thinking about the word yehaa what it actually means... I don't think there is any set-in-stone definition. I believe the meaning lies within a person. It can be a laid back yehaa or an aggressive yehaa or a sarcastic yehaa, etc. In short, I arrived at the conclusion that "yehaa" can really be used to mean any personality. In fact, the words "yehaa" and "personality" could quite possibly be used interchangeably, although it could seem slightly out of place in certain senarios. When you apply for a job, they would most likely require to take a simple personality test, but would probably not refer to it as a "yehaa" test... but I digress, as I often do. After I reached the conlusion about yehaa being a word to describe anyone's personality, I decided that I should probably decide exactly what "yehaa" means to me. This is what I have come up with so far. I am the excited/emphatic "YEHAA!", with exclamation point and capital letters added for emphasis. I am perfectly content just taking what life throws my way and just rolling with it (i.e. I don't complain very often). Hence the "excited" part of my "YEHAA!", the part that just loves life and whatever is going on around me. The other part, the "emphatic" part, is the part that sees an area that needs change or could at least benefit from change, and then sets out to change it. Instead of complaining, I take matters into my own hands... for better or worse. I haven't completely figured it out yet, but thats basically what I have on the subject so far. So if you want to take a simple yehaa test to find out what kind of yehaa you are, you can just click on this link... only to find that no such test exists and an error message appears...

The danger of talking on cell phones

Ok, so we've all heard the myth that radiation from cell phones can damage your brain. While this theory has been repeatedly proven false through testing, there are other dangers associated with talking on cell phones. I discovered one danger this morning while shopping at Kroger. I was buying eggs because I wanted to make an omlet. So I'm standing there, and I had just opened up a carton of eggs to make sure they were intact. Someone had just called me to ask me a question about our class project, so I was on the phone at the time. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, this guy came up behind me and shoved me into the egg display. He hit pretty hard, but I figured maybe he had tripped or something... it never crossed my mind that it was intentional until I tried to stand up and slipped on the cracked eggs on the floor and the guy started laughing. I've taken the liberty of editing his monologue to make it more suitable. This is what he had to say "You _____ retard. Why don't you go home and talk on the _____ phone? Or better yet get your _____ out there and find a _____ job? You _____ punks think you own everything. Get a _____ job already." He then opened the carton of six eggs he was holding and threw them at me while I was trying to get up. Apparently all that wasn't sufficient punishment for talking on a cell phone, so he turned to walk away and as soon as I stood up he turned back around and pushed me down again. Then he left the store. Well, about the time he walked out the store manager came around the corner and yelled at me (but he didin't curse) for breaking a bunch of eggs. I told him what happened, but I don't think he believed me... though I don't know how he could assume that someone would intentionally throw themselves into eggs. If he knew how I am about sticky stuff he definitely would have believed my story. So anyway, I picked up all the food I was carrying (except for the eggs, I picked a different carton cause all the ones I had were broken) and went up and paid for it. Then driving home (in a convertible, in 35 degree weather) I had to take off my shirt and sit on a towel so I wouldn't get a bunch of raw eggs all over my car.

    Moral of the story?

Don't talk on a cell phone in Kroger or you will have to drive through Marietta with no shirt on.

    halloween...

Well, halloween didn't go exactly as Jonathon had planned. He got online and found out that all of the parties and contests in and around Atlanta happened on Saturday, which I told him would be the case, but he always said no, they'd have a lot on halloween night. So that fell through. So he put on his Ghostbuster suit and pack to walk around the square. We were in a hurry so I didn't even wear the knight armor. The first thing that happened on the square was someone from the Nugget took a picture of the GB outfit, so keep and eye out for it in the paper. Then we found out that he missed the costume party by about 15 minutes, but the lady running it gave him a prize anyway. He got a cowboy hat, two chocolate fudge things (which I promptly ate), and a gift certficate for a free haircut. Jonathon didn't want the cowboy hat, so I wore it, and it looked like I had tried to throw together a really pathetic costume. We walked around a bit more, then went back to the Smith House where Clair took one look at Jonathon's costume and shook her head... that was really funny. So we went back to the school and drove to Taco Bell, and Jonathon wore the costume in to eat, which was really funny, and some girl from the highschool came up and started talking to him and was totally hitting on him, which was also really funny. Of course he just acted like regular old Jonathon though, and the girl got bored of him and left... so we went back to the school to fix a couple more things on the proton pack before we went to the costume contest at the college halloween party. About that time I realized that my church clothes would fit pretty well with the cowboy hat, so I decided to skip the knight costume and be a cowboy instead. So I made a rifle to go with it so I wouldn't look totally pathetic. Once the pack was ready we headed over to the chow hall only to discover that we missed the contest there by about 15 minutes. So we just walked around there for a while, but the only thing going on was loud music and a bunch of people trying to see who could get the closest to having sex on the dance floor without actually having sex. Not exactly our idea of a good time. So we headed back to the square, which was completely empty, but there were still some people hanging out at the haunted house. So we talked to them for a little bit, then headed back over to the college for the end of the party, and we just stood by the door, so peole would see his costume as they were leaving, and we got quite a few comments on it. Then we went to Wal-Mart and Jonathon walked around inside with his costume on, but the only people there were the workers and they were busy stocking shelves and didn't even notice. So we came to Marietta. We got here at about 2, and Jonathon had to leave to go back to school at 6, so I hope he got enough sleep and made it home ok. Well, now its time to work on writing a legal brief.

    master carpenter

Jesus began the major part of His ministry at age 30... so what did He do for the first 30 years of his life? We have a couple of snapshots like the time He went to the temple as a boy and amazed even the elders of the church with His knowledge. However, we don't really know much about His life before age 30. It can only be assumed that He spent his time learning carpentry, because his earthly father Joseph was a carpenter, and most trades were passed from father to son through the generations. If this is true, then Jesus probably had close to 20 years of carpentry experience by the time He began his three year ministry that would ultimately end in his crucifiction, resurrection and ascencion into heaven.
Ok, so Jesus had 20 years of experience building things... is that really important? To me it means a lot. Think about how long it takes to build things. A typical two-story home is usually built in about two months. The Empire State Building in New York City was completed in under 8 months. So obviously man can build some pretty big things pretty quickly.
Ok, so how fast does God build? He made the heavens and the earth in 6 days. Thats pretty impressive.
So what does that have to do with us? Well about 2000 years ago Jesus ascended into heaven and said "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." (John 14:2-3 NIV). So we know that God can build something as amazing as the heavens and the earth in 6 days. So we can only imagine the kinds of things His Son, who actually had 20 years of carpentry training, could build in 6 days. There are well over 120,000 six-day periods in 2000 years. So look at how awesome the earth and the entire universe is and multiply that by 120,000. Thats how long Jesus has been "preparing a place" for us in heaven. So just think about that for a minute...

    ?!

    ...
John: "So how many refrigerators do you think we should include in our floor plan?"
Gregg: "At least one full-size for each master suite, so thats 5. We should probably have a small 2-4 cf one for each of the executive rooms, which would be 10 more."
John: "Good point, most of the executives will be staying for at least a couple of days at a time. So none for the regular rooms?"
Joseph: "I don't think its necessary. Most of the people staying there are probably traveling and are just staying the night. And we can use the fact that the executive rooms have refrigerators as an incentive for people to upgrade their room and pay us more money if they are staying longer."
Josh: "All I know is that if they came in denim, this guy (pointing at me) would already have 2 or 3 in his apartment."
